PROMO TEXT FROM CLEOPATRA
U2's instantaneous success has secured them a place in modern music history. With a
score of top 10 singles, albums and videos, songs like "Sunday Bloody Sunday," "One," and
"With or Without You" live forever in the minds of music fans all over the world.
Too many bands over the past 20 years have seized upon the sound of U2 and - repeating
Bono's own words like an inescapable mantra - have announced to the world "I Will
Follow." And it's true...99% of the U2 sound is so personal that nobody could recreate
the commotion. But the bands here take that odd 1% and the results exceed even U2's
fieriest dreams, to create a tribute which transcends all the trappings of the genre.
Featuring an eclectic and talented mix of 80's superstars with 90's alternative music
icons - such as Tiffany, Front Line Assembly, The Polecats and Dead Or Alive - this album
blazes a trail where U2 would be even proud to follow.

USENET CHATTER
In the name of another tribute from Cleopatra Records involving nearly the same bands
as every other tribute they have released recently (Madonna [allstar, Sept. 23, 1998],
Prince, et al), the details on Irish rockers U2's immortalization we told you about in
January are now set in stone.
|
In what is perhaps the oddest collaboration on the album, late-'80s teen
sensation/mall rat Tiffany (you heard us right) will handle vocal duties for industrial
techies Front Line Assembly, who lay down a snazzy cover of "New Year's Day." Another
partnership, though nowhere near as interesting, involves Nitzer Ebb's Julian Beeston
joining Bang Tango on "Even Better Than the Real Thing."
We Will Follow: A Tribute to U2, scheduled for a July 13 release on Cleopatra, will
include '80s throwbacks Heaven 17 ("With or Without You"), the Mission U.K. ("All I Want
Is You"), Dead or Alive ("Even Better Than the Real Thing"), and Information Society
("One"), among others.

Fan opinion:
Just had to say I picked up the "Virgin Voices" CD yesterday and Heaven 17's "Holiday"
is absolutely awesome!!!! I DJ at a club here in Michigan and included it in my set last
night. There's actually quite a few great covers on there to my surprise. I think H17
fans will be very pleased with the track :-)
