Sixteen years after Penthouse and Pavement, Heaven 17 are back in their Armani suits with Orwellian sound bites, picking up right where "We Don't Need This Fascist Groove Thang" left off. Cool, detached, and highly arch, the only thing that separates this record from "Let's All Make a Bomb" is fifteen years of technology. On "Freak!," slamming house beats meet Gregory's soulful croon as he goes on a tear about lost identities and paranoia. Angie Brown wails "freak," while all those old, wonderful electronic blips and beeps flit through the driving rhythm, handily recapturing their electro-glory. (Warner Music) -- DM
