Heaven 17 has announced the 30th Anniversary November UK Tour of their critically acclaimed 1981 concept album ‘Penthouse And Pavement’ which they will perform in its entirety. Tickets go on sale Wednesday May 12th at 9am. Ticket Hotline: 08700 603 777. Book Online: www.seetickets.com.

Featuring original members Glenn Gregory (lead vocals) and Martyn Ware (synthesizers, vocals) and a full six-piece band, Heaven 17 starts their UK tour at the Edinburgh HMV Picture House on November 22nd. The tour follows the ultimate super-luxury edition of Penthouse And Pavement, released by EMI in the autumn. The show will include an LED wall featuring visuals by famous graphic artists and designers matched up to each track.

Dates include (see above). The concert will also include a greatest hits encore, including the band’s massive hit single ‘Temptation’.

Penthouse And Pavement is considered to be one of the first political electronic dance concept albums of the 1980s. The single ‘(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang’ demonstrates the left-wing political outlook of the lyrics, and looks at early 1980s Britain under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and the rise of the Yuppie. The album’s controversial themes includes nuclear war (‘Lets All Make A Bomb’), religious extremism, and America’s global influence. Penthouse And Pavement is featured in the book ‘1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die’.

Heaven 17 – Penthouse and Pavement Live

Heaven 17, seinerzeit hervorgegangen aus den Ruinen von The Human League bringen 2010 erstmals ihr Debütalbum „Penthouse and Pavement" auf die Bühne. Kaum zu glauben, die Platte wird 30 Jahre alt! Vollelektronische Popmusik mit cleverem Funk-Einschlag bescherte dem Trio aus Sheffield Anfang der 80er durchweg gute Kritiken. Einen breiteren Bekanntheitsgrad erlangte die Formation allerdings erst mit dem Nachfolger „The Luxury Gap" und den Singleauskopplungen „Temptation" und „Let me Go".

Die Diskografie zeigt - so richtig weg waren die nie, aber um die Band live zu erwischen musste man in der Vergangenheit eher weite Strecken hinter sich bringen.

Karen Schulz - Hamburg gig:

Ich war gestern in Hamburg im Konzert und fand es phantastisch! Die Setlist stimmt weitestgehend mit der aus Hannover überein, allerdings hat Glenn Don't you want me ca. zur Hälfte gespielt, weil das Publikum gleich mal mitsang und auch nicht aufhörte, als er das ironisch kommentierte...

Nach Being Boiled ging die Band ab, aber die Fabrik tobte weiter, so dass sie nochmal auf die Bühne kamen und verlegen bekannt gaben, nichts weiteres mehr vorbereitet zu haben. Glenn hat dann mit Akustik-Gitarre Geisha Boys mit dem Publikum gesungen, während die anderen im Hintergrund berieten, dann haben sie gemeinsam den Clubmix von Temptation gespielt, grandios.

Wir sind dann aber gegangen, weil uns die Band inzwischen leid tat - sie waren sichtlich hin- und hergerissen zwischen Freude über die enthusiastische Reaktion der Leute und Erschöpfung... Und wie mir auf dem Weg nach draußen schien, sind sie auch nicht nochmal rausgekommen.

Heaven 17 habe ich schon als Teenager geliebt und mit diesem Konzert haben sie mir mal wieder sehr deutlich gemacht, warum ich sie bis heute gerne höre.
