01 January 2000 | Heaven 17 headlining the Sheffield celebrations - Town Centre on New
Year's Eve
Concert "review" by Nick and Nicky Wheeler: Did you get to any of the 'Club Sandwich' tour? We managed Glasgow, Bournemouth, Wembley Arena & Manchester but 27 minutes & 6 songs just weren't enough!!!! So we just had to do Sheffield even if it was outside in the middle of winter. We arrived early and decided to find the stage before they closed down the city centre. We just sat in a bus shelter opposite the stage, waiting to be moved on but nobody asked us to leave and just before six Heaven 17 arrived for the sound check. (I must admit I could have gone home happy after that- but I'm glad we didn't). When they came on stage later they were wearing the same as they had done for the Club Sandwich tour. Songs; Fascist Groove Thang, Crushed By The Wheels Of Industry, Come Live With Me, Let's All Make A Bomb, Let Me Go, We Live So Fast (a great remix & a DIEHARD favourite), Play To Win, Penthouse & Pavement, Designing Heaven, Temptation, 20th Century Boy. I must admit I got a copy of the set list otherwise I'd never have remembered them all. It was brilliant, the best gig in a long time & what a way to spend New Years Eve. Don't know whether you know anything about a small set carried out in Brannigans, a small pub/club in Cardiff last year? Just Glenn, a backing singer and backing tracks, but I was there! 4 feet away screaming the lyrics like a loon! He was followed by "The 80's experience", a (surprise) 80's tribute band from Birmingham, who also are to be highly recommended: full costume changes etc.! Glenn stood by the bar for their set, so I couldnt resist having a chat and buying him a beer. Bloody wonderful. |
Help me to collect information about future plans of the band
and send me any bit of information
you have.
